On February 6th at approximately 1436 hours, Ulster Hose was dispatched for an adult male choking at a local restaurant. Responding units were advised that the airway was not clear and airway removal techniques were in progress. On arrival, units encountered the patient being given abdominal thrusts in an effort to remove the obstruction. At this point, the patient was not breathing and lost a pulse. UHFD personnel started CPR, AED and airway maintenance. After several minutes of CPR the obstruction was cleared, the patient regained a pulse and began breathing on his own. Empress ALS ambulance arrived and was able to transport the patient to HAHV. The patient was communicating to crews on scene and in the ambulance and is expected to make a full recovery.
