Ulster Hose honored past Chief Sam Appa on reaching 50 years of service in September of 2026. Chief Appa joined the department ranks on September 13, 1976, and became a life member in September of 2001 after 25 years of active service. He served as a commissioner from 2006 to 2008, and Chief of Department from 2009 to 2015. On September 16, 2023, Ladder 2 (61-16) was dedicated to him. We appreciate all of Chief Appa’s contributions and enjoy seeing him still in and around the station multiple times a week!
